John Sayles' AMIGO at Fully Booked High Street
Amigo at Fully Booked High Street on March, 2, 16 & 30
The film on the Philippine-US war Amigo by acclaimed American director John Sayles screens for a special limited engagement this March at Fully Booked High Street. Schedule is on March 2, 16, and 30 (all Fridays) at 8 PM. Tickets priced at P150.00 each can be purchased at the Customer Service Desk. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.
Amigo, nominated for nine awards at the 2011 Urian including Best Actor for Joel Torre and Best Director for John Sayles, tells the story of cabeza del barrio Rafael (Torre) who finds himself torn between protecting his community and appeasing the new American colonizers. The film received accolades at the Asian American International Film Festival in New York, the Toronto International Film Festival, and major international filmfests in San Sebastian, Rio de Janeiro and Hawaii. New York Times chief critic AO Scott described Amigo as “well-carpentered narrative, fast-moving and emphatic, stepping nimbly from gravity to good humor.” Scott also praised Torre’s performance as Rafael, saying it was played “with sly, hangdog brilliance.” The NY Times critic also called Sayles a “pretty good history teacher, the kind who knows how to make even difficult lessons entertaining and relevant.”
Amigo also stars Chris Cooper, Garret Dillahunt, DJ Qualls, Rio Locsin, Bembol Roco, Ronnie Lazaro, Irma Adlawan and Art Acuña. The motion picture is endorsed by the Department of Education (DepEd).
