Cinema as Art Movement, a student organization based at the UP College
of Fine Arts, in cooperation with the UP Film Institute, celebrates
its eighth year with a festival of shorts and a feature film.

CinemaIKLI/CinemaHABA, which will run for two consecutive Wednesdays
includes Cesar Hernando's Kagat ng Dilim starring Piolo Pascual and
the rare screening of Lav Diaz's award-winning five-hour film Batang
West Side.

CinemaIKLI, a program of shorts, is set on Sept. 27 with screenings at
1 to 3 p.m., 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., and at 6 to 8 p.m. CinemaHABA
featuring Batang West Side has an Oct. 4 playdate, from 3 p.m. to 8
p.m. Venue is at the UP Film Institute's Cine Adarna, Magsaysay Ave.,
UP Campus, Quezon City.

The 15-minute Kagat ng Dilim is set in rural 1950. Piolo plays a Huk
guerilla leader whose troop patrols the mountains of Central Luzon.
His men fall, one by one, to an invisible enemy. Slain victims' bodies
are found to have two wounds on their necks, leading to talk that they
were bitten by aswang (vampire). The story is fiction based on facts.
Director of photography is Rody Lacap. Kagat ng Dilim was produced by
Hernando's Hideaway in cooperation with Fuji-Keyser Mercantile and the
National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

CinemaIKLI films to be shown are Raymond Red's Anino and Mes de
Guzman's Batang Trapo. Others are Jopay Guillermo's Tubero and
Takipsilim; Rommel Joson's Kahon; Jhem Manalang's Short Film; Dan
Matutina's Biyaheng Barya; Erwin Romulo's MTV, A Cold and Better Place
and Cesar Hernando's Maalinsangan ang Gabi.
